Winter Wednesdays Volume 2
Everything that happened this festive week of winter.
Happy New Year’s Eve! Welcome to the absolute slowest time of year. The days don’t really seem to start and simultaneously never end. I never thought I’d wish for a January to finally arrive, but here we are.
Don’t forget about everything you can do to ensure a good year ahead.
BAKING/COOKING
I made the sausage gravy stuffing again (which was still great) but the thing that elevated it? Putting the leftovers inside a waffle maker. Look at this beauty.
My niece also made these mashed potatoes (at my insistence) that my friends at The Kitchen have been screaming about for years and they were good, but absolutely not the greatest-in-the-world as they claimed. I think the key might be to try a different potato recipe each year.
CRAVING
I don’t need this bag, right? Don’t answer that.
DRINKING
I’m in a real rut, drink-wise. I’m off seltzer lately. I don’t care about alcohol. Tea bores me. Iced coffee doesn’t wow me like it used to. Not sure what to do with my life.
EATING
Nathan and I brought home a Dairy Queen snowman ice cream cake on Christmas Eve and honestly some jaws were dropped (the jaws of children, but still). It could’ve been because no one had eaten one in maybe a decade or it could have just been because it tasted like the magic of Christmas…?
EXPERIENCING
I love it when buildings decorate their courtyards. (This is not my courtyard, below. It’s the courtyard a half a block from mine. No one knows why my building stopped decorating but I think it coincided with when they stopped sweeping our hallway staircase. Just a guess.)
LISTENING
On repeat, unfortunately.
LOVING
It’s not even January and the winter madness is settling in because why do I think I need to buy this spring wreath from Simons? Here’s the problem though, it’s almost too gorgeous. The only reason I’m not buying it immediately is because of what a nightmare it might be to take to New York. But a gentle side note: can we make seasonal wreaths a thing for every season? What if we all decided that was a normal thing to do?
SHOPPING
It’s Boxing Week (when did it become a week and not just one day?) and I actually can’t be stopped. I got four of these sunflower appetizer plates for upcoming summer parties and this green artichoke serving platter from H&M Home. I also loaded up on the (on sale) tea tree body wash from The Body Shop because that is the holy grail of keeping bumps and acne away from your back.
WATCHING
Literally the snow. No new shows, no movies. I might be going through something? Haha?
WEARING
I’ve been on the hunt for a thin (but not grotesquely thin) black belt with a simple gold buckle and Banana Republic Factory made this dream come true.
